Ave Maria (Schubert)
Then, in the Areopagus returns on this approach when, outraged with the idolatry that Paul looked around the city of Athens, in a skillful speech to the Greeks say: «Athenians, I see that you are all in the most religious. If I, indeed, your city, and looking at your sacred monuments, I found also an altar with this inscription: «By God Unknown.» Well, without knowing what veneráis, that’s what I’m going to announce you. The God who has made the world and everything in it, being Lord of heaven and earth, dwells not in temples built by man, nor is it served as human hands, as though He needed anything, which gives all life, breath and all things, a single man has done to the entire human race to dwell on all the land, the predetermined times and the boundaries of their dwelling, to seek God and see if groping for what could be found, although it is not far from each one of us, since we live in Him, we move and exist, as some of your poets have said: «Because we are of his lineage.» Because if we are offspring of God, we should not think that the deity is like gold or silver or stone, or sculpture made by art and ingenuity of man «(Acts 17, 22-29).
God surrounds us. Instead of seeing through sound human inventions, whether or mythology, as in today, philosophical or scientific theories, St. Paul urges us, like those Greeks to capture their live presence in Nature, in all what surrounds us and that He is everywhere around us: «He lived in» Not in human constructions, whether architectural or intellectual, that are dead. And God is our lineage. » It is, like us, a living thing. The living par excellence. Moreover, our life, like the entire universe, is an extension of yours ..
In a memorable text of his letter to the Romans, St. Paul again insist on the same argument as saying that God was knowable God expressed himself through nature, but that pride-wise direct heir of sin Adam was born, the idolatries that deprive men of their lives to capture this. We will say, speaking of the heathen, «the knowable of God is manifest among them, because God said so. That the invisible God, seen from the creation of the world by the creatures, is known: his eternal power and divinity, to the point of being inexcusable, that they knew God did not glorify him as God nor gave thanks but is vain in their reasonings and their foolish heart was darkened. Wise saying became fools, and cutting the glory of the incorruptible God for an image of corruptible man, of birds, quadrupeds and reptiles «(Romans 1, 19-23).
The invisible God is manifest in the visible. But the men, instead of capturing the image of God that God created on the same project, they chose to worship images, statues, made by his own hand. Instead of giving worship to the God whose life, whose power was manifested in the Life of the Worlds, preferring, for his vain arguments and ideas, to worship the works and thoughts of humans. It will be a constant in this Apostle to promote this form of abandonment of all idolatry to worship the «one living and true God» (1 Thess, 9)
No, amigo. No soy cura.
